About Nubiyan Twist
This is what we found on Wikipedia regarding the Nubiyan Twist:
Funk is a music genre that originated in African-American communities in the mid-1960s when musicians created a rhythmic, danceable new form of music through a mixture of various music genres that were popular among African-Americans in the mid-20th century. It deemphasizes melody and chord progressions and focuses on a strong rhythmic groove of a bassline played by an electric bassist and a drum part played by a percussionist, often at slower tempos than other popular music. Funk typically consists of a complex percussive groove with rhythm instruments playing interlocking grooves that create a "hypnotic" and "danceable" feel. It uses the same richly colored extended chords found in bebop jazz, such as minor chords with added sevenths and elevenths, and dominant seventh chords with altered ninths and thirteenths.
Funk originated in the mid-1960s, with James Brown's development of a signature groove that emphasized the downbeat—with a heavy emphasis on the first beat of every measure ("The One"), and the application of swung 16th notes and syncopation on all basslines, drum patterns, and guitar riffs. Rock- and psychedelia-influenced musicians Sly and the Family Stone and Parliament-Funkadelic fostered more eclectic examples of the genre beginning in the late 1960s. Other musical groups developed Brown's innovations during the 1970s and the 1980s, including Kool and the Gang, Ohio Players, Fatback Band, Jimmy Castor Bunch, Earth, Wind & Fire, B.T. Express, Shalamar, One Way, Lakeside, Dazz Band, The Gap Band, Slave, Aurra, Roger Troutman & Zapp, Con Funk Shun, Cameo, Bar-Kays and Chic.
Funk derivatives include avant-funk, an avant-garde strain of funk; boogie, a hybrid of electronic music and funk; funk metal; G-funk, a mix of gangsta rap and psychedelic funk; Timba, a form of funky Cuban dance music; and funk jam. It is also the main influence of Washington go-go, a funk subgenre. Funk samples and breakbeats have been used extensively in hip hop and electronic dance music.

Nubiyan Twist - Lights Out ft. Nile Rodgers (Official Music Video)
https://strut.lnk.to/FindYourFlame
Emerging French animator and Motion Design award winner Alice Bibette reveals the electrifying official video for Nubiyan Twist & Nile Rodgers track ‘Lights Out’. In ...keeping with the heady, sun-drenched sound of Nubiyan Twist's latest album ‘Find Your Flame’, Alice examines the concept of igniting your true self in this vibrant, textural story following the life cycle of a diminished flame that finally ignites, taking human form as this beautifully creative video unfolds.
The narrative follows the split reality of a hostile vs. playful world, as we see our protagonist navigate its journey to true freedom, showing the beauty in the little things, the power of hope, and the growth we experience despite hostility. Having previously been recognised in publications such as It's Nice That for her unique and artistic skill set, Alice previously specialised in bringing to life urgent social and political topics, making this their debut music video.
Alice explains, “My starting point were the lyrics which express two voices one can have in one's mind: a motivated invincible feeling opposed to a less confident, low-esteemed one. It’s these mood fluctuations which can be triggered by our surroundings/society but also ourselves that I wanted to translate into a visual journey. I love that the song expresses both feelings in such an electric and uplifting way. I think that’s why the song is so smart, talking about real feelings both positive and negative in a light and fun way. My goal was to translate that. I wanted to create an “eye candy”: whichever world you're in, it’s part of the journey and it’s great. Along the creative journey, I discovered my own hidden worlds and my craft evolved so I cannot thank Nubiyan Twist enough for this opportunity and their trust. It was wonderful working with such an inspiring band.”

Nubiyan Twist presents another big hitter from new album ‘Find Your Flame’ with the release of ...their new single ‘Carry Me’ featuring Nigeria's modern day torch-bearer of Afrobeat, Seun Kuti.
In ‘Carry Me’, the narrative unfolds from the perspective of a child coming to grips with their parents' hardships, paying homage to the resilience of all mothers and parental figures struggling in the shadows. Bandleader Tom Excell explains, “'Carry Me' celebrates the silent sacrifices made by parents navigating economic challenges and nuclear families in the absence of robust local communities. It's also a dedication to my partner and to her enduring strength”.
The collaboration emerged from a chance encounter at Glastonbury Festival in 2022, where Nubiyan Twist bandleader Tom Excell was blown away by Kuti's magnetic stage presence. Originally crafted as a live-only piece, ‘Carry Me’ took on new dimensions with Seun's involvement, resulting in a full-blooded summer anthem that underscores Nubiyan Twist's affinity for Afrobeat, a defining element across their discography to date..[+] Show More
